Located on the former Pooley
Hall Colliery site, the heritage centre provides an insight into mining history and sustainable energy generation (wind and solar) as well as rainwater re-use and conservation
Education centre and nature/heritage trails acknowledge the legacy of the mining
industry which began operating around 1846. The colliery was the first coal mine in the country to install pit head baths and was also the first to generate it's own electricity
from surplus steam used to drive the winding gear.
