The atmospheric rooms remain much as he left them, with many literary and personal belongings. The modest house provides a fascinating insight into the domestic life of a literary figure in the first half of the twentieth century. The garden has richly planted borders and views over the Hertfordshire countryside. At the bottom of the garden stands Shaw's Writing Hut where he wrote some of his most famous plays. Collections description The house contains George Bernard Shaw's personal effects evoking the individuality and genius of this great dramatist. Built by local architects and using local materials, it has some lovely arts and crafts features such as hearts in the banisters. Among the items on display are Rodin's bust of Shaw's head, the Oscar which Shaw was awarded for best screenplay for the 1938 play 'Pygmalion', and an original Beardsley pen and ink drawing.
