I first arrived at the Westie playing in a band, before a long association and eventual Directorship. As soon as I saw it I realised it was an amazing place with a special staff and a great atmosphere, and I still feel the same today. Anywhere you can have a ceramics class, a punk rock gig, a drama workshop and an art exhibition all in the same evening can't be bad can it?! Bands like Blur, Manic Street Preachers and Hundred Reasons came here in the early days, the likes of Graham Norton and Bill Bailey have made us laugh and there's a history of theatre as long as your arm, but the most important thing is that everyone who comes here has a great time and leaves smiling. Audience, performers and staff! Sometimes the world can seem very grey - and as we see it our role is to provide a little bit of colour for everyone who needs a top up!
