The Itchen Way
RETURN WALKS

A 27 mile walk up the Itchen Valley from the Solent to the source of the river. This walk starting at Southampton, largely follows the towpath of the disused Itchen Navigation.

It passes Eastleigh, and from there past Shawford where there is a waterside pub, and then into Winchester sharing the final part of The Clarendon Way from St Cross to the city centre.

The walk from Winchester out to Alresford is on the course of another new long distance walk, The Three Castles Path, which leads to Windsor, and also part of the famous Pilgrims Way which has been recreated from Winchester to Canterbury.

The Itchen Way passes by Tichborne, and Cheriton to end near Hinton Ampner. Here there is a link with the South Downs Way thus offering keen walkers a rich choice of options for creating there own long distace walks across Hampshire.

A guide book to The Itchen Way has been published (written by Richard Kenchington) but if unavailable the route can easily be followed from Ordnance Survey maps.
