Eggsford
Return North Devon

The main A377 Barnstaple to Exeter holiday route runs through the village of Eggesford and the Tarka Line also runs close by.

A pleasant stroll to Eggesford church is rewarded by outstanding views across the River Taw.

A visitor centre is situated at the Eggesford Gardens Country Centre, where the restaurant specializes in homemade fayre.

A little further south is the village of Wembworthy, a good place to find some well planned walks and trails etc., one of which, the Northdown Trail, meanders through the Eggesford Forest with its variety of flowers and wildlife. Leaflets about the trails are available from the Wembworthy Centre. In the area are remains of a gothic mansion which once presided over a large wooded parkland; also the fine 16th century Rashleigh Barton noted for its fine plaster ceilings.
