Return North Devon

A very historic village dating from 700AD situated between two tributaries of the River Yeo it straddles an ancient trade route that ran from Cornwall to the Quantocks.

There are connections with the Chichester and Fanshaw families. The 13th Century church was rebuilt in 1838. There are burial grounds from the bronze age on the nearby downs.

In 1898 a railway track was established between Lynton and Barnstaple which served Exmoor for more than 37 years.
