Budleigh Salterton
RETURN EAST DEVON

This historic seaside town nestles on the edge of a unique pebble beach beneath spectacular red cliffs.

Situated at the mouth of the River Otter, Budleigh Salterton's sheltered location has made it popular since Roman times. Its pebbles, or cobbles, were swept to the shores by ancient rivers and are unique along the Jurassic Coast.

Budleigh Salterton's cultural claims to fame include being featuring in Noel Coward's 'Blythe Spirit', Sir John Millais's famous painting, the 'Boyhood of Raleigh' and being a former home to the eminent novelist Anthony Trollope.

Nearby attractions include a thatched museum, Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, and the River Otter, which is a haven for birdwatchers.
Budleigh Salterton also boasts the largest Croquet lawn outside London, while other sports on offer nearby include golf, sea and beach fishing, bowls, cricket and horse riding. A variety of quality, mostly family-run, accommodation and eateries adds to its charms.
