Walking
Devonshire's Heartland has much to offer the walker whether for an afternoon's stroll to a full day's hike.

 

Country Walks and Villages is a series of leaflets giving an outline of local history and interesting features, combined with scenic walks around the towns and villages they focus on. The leaflets are:

Several long distance walking routes also pass through the area:

 

 

Exe Valley Way (45 miles) - starting on Exmoor, crossing Devonshire's Heartland north to south through the scenic central part of the route, to reach the beautiful Exe estuary.

 

The Grand Western Canal Country Park (11 miles) - a level walk along the banks of the canal (now a country park) starting in the Canal Basin, Tiverton.

 

Two Moors Way (100 miles) - passing through Devonshire's Heartland to link Dartmoor with Exmoor.

 

The Tarka Trail (180 miles) - a figure -of-eight shaped walk, centred on Barnstaple but slipping into Devonshire's Heartland in the Eggesford area. The trail follows the travels of Tarka the Otter.
