Torridge
Return

The district of Torridge takes its name from the river that wends a remarkable journey from its source near Hartland down through the beautiful unspoilt countryside between Holsworthy and Hatherleigh, through Great Torrington and out into the estuary at Bideford.

The coastline is as spectacular as any in Britain from the Promontory of Hercules at Hartland to the vast pebble ridge at Westward Ho!. In between lies one of the world"s unique cliffside villages - Clovelly and, nearby, its smaller neighbour Bucks Mills as well as two great family attractions at the Milky Way and the Big Sheep.

Appledore is a delightful unspoilt fishing village of pretty narrow cobbled lanes with fascinating little shops, inns and art and craft galleries.

Bideford is a thriving medieval market town and port, full of charm and history whilst Great Torrington is the home of not one but three great attractions - RHS Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and 1646 Civil War Experience.

The island of Lundy lies 12 miles off the coast and is a haven for bird watchers and nature lovers, being renowned for its puffins and seals. There is also accommodation on the island as well as a church and a pub ! Day trips are available from Bideford on a regular basis.

The large unspoilt rural area between Holsworthy and Hatherleigh is now known as Ruby Country and is developing a network of walking, cycling and themed trails to enhance visitors enjoyment of the area.
