Jurassic Coast
Return East Devon

Welcome to the Jurassic Coast - England's first natural World Heritage Site. East Devon's unique coastline has joined the ranks of the Great Barrier Reef and Grand Canyon, as one of the wonders of the natural world.

This is due to its outstanding geology - rocks from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods can be found, which represent an amazing 185 million years of the earth's history.

The red cliffs are left over from a desert formed 200 million years ago, while Budleigh Salterton's distinctive pebbles were washed ashore by vast ancient rivers. East Devon is also famous for landslips that create wild jungle-like 'undercliffs', and for Beer's unique quarry caves, which have been mined since Roman times.

Why not take a 'walk through time' along the coast and see the geological story for yourself!
