from Marlow to Medmenham, Marlow Bottom, Little Marlow, Bourne End and Wooburn Green. Patients are admitted via their GP. Since 1991, there has also been a day hospital and a family health clinic
on the site. The day hospital is used by elderly people who need treatment, but not an overnight stay. The clinic houses community health services including children's dental treatment, speech therapy,
physiotherapy, chiropody, Macmillan nurses, health visitors and Marlow Epics (who look after the elderly).
An active League of Friends supports the community hospital. It has funded several projects and its members help in the hospital.
LETS Marlow & District Local Exchange Trading Scheme
Sponsored by Wycombe District Council.
LETS is a sophisticated bartering network. Its aim is to help to meet the needs of the local community by trading skills, goods, services and hire of equipment. These non-profit making schemes exist in
the UK, Australia, Canada, the USA and many other countries worldwide.
Marlow & District LETS was formed in early 1994 and has enjoyed a high level of success in a very short time. Members elect a Core Group every year to run the system.
Trading
LETS operates as a trading system with members exchanging goods and services; the unit of exchange is the BART. In general an hour's work, although negotiable, is charged at 10 BARTS. A directory, issued
to members, shows the services each member offers. A member requiring a service contacts a member offering the service and agrees the terms of the transaction. There is no obligation on members to
accept a request.
Once the task has been completed, the recipient gives the provider a LETS Voucher, made out for the appropriate number of BARTS, which he or she then sends to the Administrator, who records these
transactions in both members' accounts. A record of all trading is circulated on a regular basis.
Making Friends
Marlow & District LETS offers many social and economic benefits. Regular Core Group meetings and LETS get togethers are held. Information on these events can be found in our regular newsletters.
