Sutton is in the east of the District between Sandy, 3 miles to the north west and Biggleswade 4 miles south west, and is one of the most picturesque villages in Mid Beds. A
brook crosses the village street to the Ivel, the notable 14th century packhorse bridge spanning the ford being an ancient monument. The bridge is stone built with two pointed
arches and attracts many visitors.
The Church of All Saints dates from the 13th end 14th centuries and has many interesting features including a pulpit with sounding
box dated 1628, box pews and communion rail, also 17th century, a barrel organ which is still used, and a beautiful monument to Sir Roger Burgoyne.
The house at
Sutton Park was burnt down in 1824, and its replacement forms John o' Gaunt Golf Club.
Like many villages there has been much building since the war and both Council
and private housing adds variety to the Scene. Village facilities include a Lower School and childrens' play area. One bus weekly on Saturday morning links it with Biggleswade.
