Stotfold

Stotfold is close to the Bedfordshire - Hertfordshire border, about 3 miles  from both Baldock and Letchworth. It developed in response to industrial  pressure from North Herts but now has developed some industry of its  own.

The Church of St Mary Virgin dates from the 12th to 15th centuries,  although the chancel was rebuilt in 1890. The clerestory is Perpendicular, as is  the font. Some early stained glass has been preserved in a north window.  Religion was diversiiied in the 1880s by the building of three Baptist and two  Methodist chapels and a Salvation Army Hall.

Facilities include a  Community Centre, Memorial Hall, Post Office, Clinic and Health Centre and  recreation grounds. Education is catered for by both Lower and Middle Schools in  the town, and an Upper School on the A507 between the Stotfold and Arlesey.
