5 miles from Biggleswade on the River Ivel, Southill is mainly concerned with farming and market gardening. This village has many attractive thatched cottages of honey coloured
stone dating from the 1Bth and 19th centuries.
Parts of All Saints Church are 15th century, but a window in the north aisle is thought to be 14th century. Extensive
alteration and restoration took place between 1814 and 1816.
Southill Park, covering some 800 acres, has been the home of the Whitbread family since 1785. The mansion
is an excellent example of Regency architecture, being rebuilt between 1786 and 1801. The grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown and includes statues, lakes and
bridges.
Broom is notable ior the Georgian Broom Hall, with its Tuscan columned porch.
There are limited iacilities, uith Post Offices at Broom and Southill and
village stores at Southill and Stanford. Southill has a Lower School and there are Village Halls at Broom and Southill.
