Henlow

Henlow, about 9 miles south of Biggleswade, is split into two communities -  the village and the RAF Station, which has a large married quarters  area.

The Parish Church of St Mary is mainly 13th century, but the tower  is later.

Several older houses remain, including Henlow Grange in its 28  acre park beside the Ivel. This three storey brick house was built in about  1700, although earlier buildings stood on the site. For over 300 years it was a  monastic house of the Cistercians. The present building fell into decay, but in  1961 it was renovated and converted into a beauty farm.

Market gardening  thrives, but there are also small factories and warehouses. Amenities include a  middle school, several shops, a Sub Post Office and two recreation grounds. A  mobile library visits weekly and a local bus service links it with Bedford,  Hitchin and Shefford.
